The nation's top luge athletes will gather at the USA Luge refrigerated indoor start training complex on Friday, October 16. At stake will be the annual start championship title. The competitions will take place at the USA Luge headquarters at 57 Church Street in Lake Placid at 6 PM ET.
The public is invited to attend, free of charge. That day, USA Luge is also offering its weekly Tours and Rides program, which begins at 2 p.m. For a $20 donation, participants get a tour of the facility and workshops, plus a chance to take a ride down the start ramp. All proceeds support the athletes and programs of USA Luge.
Men's singles: 2022&2026 Olympian Jonny Gustafson (Massena, N.Y.) will face competition from Hunter Harris (East Fairfield, Vt.), Matt Greiner (Park City, Utah), Aidan Mueller (West Islip, N.Y.), and Logan Barnes (Clarkesville, Tenn.).
Women's singles: 2026 Olympic Bronze Medalist Ashley Farquharson (Park City, Utah) and Emma Erickson (Park City, Utah) will be looking for their wins.
Women's doubles is expected to feature 2026 Olympians Chevonne Forgan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Sophia Kirkby (Ray Brook, N.Y.), who will be competing for the start title with Maya Chan (Chicago, Ill.) and Sophia Gordon (Sussex, Wisc.).
Men’s doubles start champions and 2-time Olympians Zack DiGregorio (Medway, Mass.) and Sean Hollander (Lake Placid, N.Y.) will look to defend their title from 2026 Olympians Marcus Mueller (Brookfield, Wisc.) and Ansel Haugsjaa (Acton, Mass.), and the duo of Dana Kellogg (Chesterfield, Mass.) and Frank Ike (Lititz, Pa.).
The start championship format will consist of three heats, with the winners earning the lowest combined times. The first two heats will be traditional starts and the third will be a reaction start, as used in the team relay event.
Held annually in late summer and early fall, the competition marks the countdown to the teams' return to the ice in preparation for the FIL World Cup series.
