Animal lovers and curious explorers alike are invited to experience the inner workings of the Hattiesburg Zoo during Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped – Behind the Zenes on Saturday, August 15.
This special event offers guests the rare opportunity to go beyond the public pathways and discover what happens behind the scenes in caring for the Zoo’s animals. Through four exclusive guided tours, guests will gain insight into the world of animal husbandry, veterinary care, nutrition preparation, enrichment, and daily operations that help keep the Zoo thriving.
“The first Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped – Behind the Zenes in June was overwhelmingly enjoyed by participating guests, but we had some bad weather that came through the area, which deterred some people from attending,” said Demetric Kelly, Director of Guest Services and Retail. “We want to give our guests another opportunity to enjoy this special experience, and we hope they will join us August 15th.”
Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped – Behind the Scenes will feature tours of the following:
African Barn
Giraffe Barn
Veterinary/Nutrition Preparation Area
Asbury Lab
Each tour lasts approximately 20 minutes and will be offered every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis and can accommodate up to 20 guests per tour-session. At the ticket booth, guests can purchase a special $10 Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped wristband, which will grant access to all four behind-the-scenes tours. Only 250 wristbands will be sold for the event, and children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a paying adult.
“Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped – Behind the Zenes, gives guests an exciting opportunity to see the dedication, science, and care that go into maintaining a modern zoological facility,” said Jeremy Cumpton, Director of Conservation and Education. “We know our participating guests will leave the Hattiesburg Zoo with a deeper appreciation for the incredible work our animal care teams perform every day.”
Regular Zoo admission is required, and Annual Passes can be used to gain admission to the zoo, but do not allow access to Hattiesburg Zoo Unzipped. Tickets to the Hattiesburg Zoo can be purchased in advance using the link below.
