Untethered: 'Spontaneous Creative Composition' at the Van Dyck

Untethered is a Philadelphia-based collective led by Paul Giess (Ropeadope) playing what their drummer, free jazz legend Grant Calvin Weston (Ornette Coleman, John Modeski, Vernon Reid) calls “Spontaneous Creative Composition”.
As a trio, the group plays a genre crossing style of improvisation that holds a deep pocketed funk next to intimate chamber music and the raw energy of a punk band next to a sensitive ballad, bringing fire to the stage and keeping listeners guessing and yearning for more. Ensemble members have included Calvin West, Brandon Ross, Kayla Childs, Lee Clarke, Max Hoenig, Matthew Little, Rodrigo Pichardo, and bassist Timothy Ragsdale, who was featured on Untethered's most recent release '' and will be performing on 10/16 alongside Paul & GCW.

Opening the evening will be Capital Region based experimental / ambient jazz trio 4i's, one of our favorite groups here at the Van Dyck! They've got an all new set of music that's right in line with Unthetered's 'Spontaneous Creative Composition', and will kicking things off right at 7pm for us.
