A masterclass with KSCA artist Leanne Thompson in conjunction with the current exhibition, The Art of Adaptation: Culture Changes Everywhere
About this Event

Sunday 19 July
12.303.30pm

Delve into the possibilities and constraints of materials foraged and harvested from living environments. This masterclass will engage with the cultural, scientific, and intrinsic knowledge embedded in the relationships between plants, animals, objects, substances, and people. Drawing on Leanne’s multidisciplinary practice, explore a range of skills and techniques, including:

  • weaving
  • assemblage
  • decocting colour from plants
  • shadow-play.

Be invited to question if radical creativity and interventions within our own environment – from backyards to watersheds – can be a catalyst for change.

Leanne’s experimental workshops are hands-on creative investigations that embed participants in natural systems and materials. Sense-making activities, when coupled with the imaginative possibilities arising from an ethic of reciprocity, stimulate new memories needed to shift and adapt our future selves to a changing world.

Bring with you: your personal PPE – (gloves, apron, etc) and a selection of personal tooling if desired (brushes, scissors, paper, journal, etc).

Artists Bio:
Leanne is a multi-disciplinary artist, adapting creativity to suit the collaboration, site and available materials. Her practice spans 40 years of studio experiments, exhibitions, collaborative residencies and community events, with the last decade embracing socially engaged projects at the intersection of real-world change, creative recovery and experiential learning. These projects welcome the broad community to share knowledge in non-judgemental, creative investigations of ecological networks, land practices and changing culture.
