Call out to fresh and seasoned actors who are passionate to take their acting technique further! Join us in this practical course on acting Shakespeare with particular focus on techniques in speaking and acting verse – rhythmic speech – an Elizabethan drama form with specific technical demands in performance. The course features techniques from Peter Hall and John Barton (Royal Shakespeare Company), Giles Block (The Globe Theatre) and Bertram Joseph (LAMDA, Bristol Old Vic)Students will develop their technique through structured exercises and explore them through different monologues, scenes and characters, with a show back at the end of the course where they will perform a short excerpt from a play.
The content will be delivered at a manageable pace as to include both fresh and seasoned actors. There will also be individual coaching and personalised feedback to help individuals progress.
Course content
Week 1: Rhythm of the verse
Week 2: Rhythmic irregularities/Basic Stanislavski
Week 3: Irregular verse lines/Line Learning technique
Week 4: Thoughts, thought units and imagery/Line Learning technique 2
Week 5: Rhetoric and acting
Week 6: Actioning and Laban Efforts in Shakespeare
Week 7: Characterisation
Week 8: Showback Rehearsal/Individual Coaching
The showback will be done as a separate event where a public audience will be invited to the viewing.
