UNI: Rhythms of Indigenous Philippines

House of Gongs, in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Department of Music, East-West Center, Hawaiʻi State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, and Capitol Modern, proudly presents UNI: Rhythms of the Philippines, a culminating concert honoring Filipino Indigenous sound, movement, and contemporary diasporic expression.

Taking place on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 1:00 PM at the Hawaiʻi State Art Museum, this free, public event marks the finale of House of Gongs’ week-long biennial music camp. The program features newly developed works by emerging Filipino-American artists from across the United States, Canada, and Australia, reflecting a global diasporic dialogue grounded in ancestral knowledge.

UNI brings together an extraordinary lineup of performers spanning Indigenous, contemporary, and cross-cultural practices. Featured artists include:

• Isla Katao Dance
• Tahiti Mana
• Braddah Ash
• Hālau Hula Nā Lālama
• UH Kulintang Ensemble

Headlining the event are master culture bearers and artists from Mindanao, Philippines:

• Farid Guinomla
• Sata Abdullah
• Waway Saway and Balugto
• Joel Ganlal

Also headlining is the San Francisco-based legacy company Alleluia Panis Dance Theater, known for its groundbreaking work in Filipino American contemporary dance.

Serving as a closing celebration of Asian American, Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian Heritage Month (AAPINH) in Oʻahu, UNI invites audiences into an immersive experience of rhythm, story, and cultural continuity. The event is free and open to the public.
