🎭 AN UNEXPECTED CABARET & THE BACKSTAGE SOCIAL 🎭
Get ready for a night of theater peeps, good vibes, and great sounds! Unexpected Théâtre proudly presents our First Annual Summer Cabaret, immediately followed by the return of the Backstage Social!
PART 1: The Cabaret (The Performance)
We’ve gathered a brilliant collective of local performers, core company members, and extraordinary guest artists to bring you an unforgettable two-act showcase. From gender-bent showtunes to love songs turned completely on their heads, our cast is putting an "Unexpected Spin" on your favorite Broadway hits. Backed by a fantastic live band, expect high energy, and massive local talent!
PART 2: The "Pour Back" (The Backstage Social)
The Backstage Social is back, and it’s here to stay! Originally born as the Backyard Barbecue, this has now evolved into our annual community-wide link-up.
Hosted by Micah Jondel DeShazer, Krystal Pope, and Corrine Viau, this bilingual social has three simple goals:
- to connect
- kick back
- and ignite positive action in the performing arts scene across the greater Capital region.
Who is it for?
Arts leaders, performers, designers, playwrights, educators, patrons, collectives, administrators, stage managers, technicians, and curious minds. If you love or make art in Ottawa, you belong in the room.
The Vibe: Potluck snacks and goodies will be provided by Unexpected Théâtre (all clearly labeled for dietary needs/preferences) and a paid bar at SAW will be available!
The Action:
Building on the community dialogue we relaunched with Rachel and Patrice in 2024, we will be hosting an open discussion on our shared desires for the Ottawa arts community—and together, we’re going to identify and execute *one shared community goal* for the coming season.
