Unearthed: The Energetics of Food - Five Element & Chinese Medicine
It is with great pleasure to announce that we are now resuming Unearthed! And there could be no more perfect time than now, as the harvest is reaching its end and we can gather around the fireplace to enjoy the fruits of the Earth (and our labor).
And for such a special time of year, we will dedicate Unearthed to… Food!
Most of us think of food as one of the greatest pleasures in life. Whether you enjoy cooking or find yourself scrolling through delicious restaurant menus, food is something that brings us together as humans. Food can mean memory, tradition, adventure, family…it is the flavours of food that often capture and evoke those of life!
Food, however, has also become one of the most discussed and controversial topics, with many of us feeling lost or frustrated when it comes to answering the question: what should I eat?
So, for this occasion, instead of opening the space for you for ‘just’ a chat, we invite you to join us to share some food together and explore the energetic properties of food according to the Five Element tradition.
Stef Allegrini, Acupuncturist and Naturopathic Coach, will explore the energetic properties and five tastes of food - sour, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty - and how they can be used to nourish or balance the organ systems, according to our constitution and the season.
What will we explore together?
The Five Elements & the five tastes - exploring the different qualities of sour, bitter, sweet, pungent and salty foods and their corresponding season.
Food & constitution - exploring some of the different tendencies we experience in our bodies, and why the same food may affect different people in different ways.
What will the event look like?
Taste, share & experience - this isn't just a conversation about food! We will taste and share a selection of foods together, noticing their different flavours, qualities and how we experience them.
A little “look at your tongue” game - learning how Chinese Medicine looks at the tongue and having some fun noticing what we can observe on our own.
Conversation around the table - plenty of space to chat, share experiences and perhaps see food from a slightly different perspective.
And, of course, we need the food!
Everyone is invited to bring a dish or something to eat and share. It doesn't need to be elaborate or fancy - something you love, something seasonal, something you've made, or simply something you feel like bringing along.
Part of the fun will be discovering what arrives around the table and exploring the qualities of the foods together.
No previous knowledge of Chinese Medicine is needed - just bring your curiosity, your appetite and something to share!
25th October · 12–3pm
£10 to attend · All welcome

Vegetarian Food only
About Unearthed
After leaving the corporate world to become a full-time acupuncturist, my life took a profound turn. Alongside this transition came a series of personal health challenges that led me to discover approaches that changed everything I thought I knew about the body and its capacity to recover.
Over the years, both in my clinical practice and personal journey, one truth has become clear: there are practitioners out there who are doing incredible, pioneering work, changing lives and saving lives. And this knowledge must be shared.
Another thing that became clear is that collaboration is key and, often, the solution lies not in one approach alone, but in the integration of many.
This is how Lynn Francis and I came together, as we both believe collaboration is the future in a world that pushes individualism and separation. Lynn has lived and breathed this knowing since the beginning of her work with yoga and healing, encouraging connection and the sharing of knowledge and skills.
