Understand why some environments help you function while others leave you depleted—and identify one manageable change to try.
About this Event

Perhaps you have received a diagnosis and been left wondering what it means for your everyday life. You may be waiting for an assessment, beginning to recognise your own neurodivergence, or simply curious about whether a different way of understanding yourself could help.

You may already have found plenty of information about autism, ADHD, dyslexia or other forms of neurodivergence. The difficult part is applying that information to your own experience: understanding why some environments, tasks and relationships feel manageable while others leave you overwhelmed, exhausted or unable to function as you would like.

You may be asking:

“Why can I manage something in one setting but struggle with it in another?”
“Why do apparently ordinary tasks take so much energy?”
“Why does a strategy help for a while and then stop working?”
“Which demands are contributing to overload, fatigue or burnout?”
“What could I change to make everyday life more sustainable?”

Understanding Your Neurodivergence is a practical, research-informed introductory workshop for neurodivergent adults who want to begin making sense of their own patterns and needs.

You do not need a formal diagnosis to attend. Adults who are diagnosed, self-identifying, exploring or waiting for an assessment are equally welcome.

WHAT WILL YOU GAIN?

During the workshop, you will be introduced to:

• neurodivergence in clear, everyday language, including how different needs can overlap
• how your capacity can vary according to the setting, task, expectations and demands around you
• how sensory conditions, cognitive demands, communication, relationships, regulation and time can interact
• questions that can help you consider what may be influencing a recurring difficulty
• reasons the same strategy may help in one context and fail in another
• a structured way to reflect on one area of your everyday life

The guided reflection will help you identify one manageable environmental change or experiment that you could try after the workshop.

You will leave with a clearer way to think about one recurring difficulty, one practical change to explore and information about ways to use the framework in more depth.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Doors open at 18:30 for a soft start. The workshop runs from 18:45 to 20:30 and includes a short break, guided reflection and opportunities to connect with other neurodivergent adults.

This workshop is a concise introduction to Zoe’s Ecological Inclusion Framework. The framework considers how surroundings, tasks, relationships and expectations may be influencing a person’s nervous system and their capacity to function, participate and recover.

It brings together research from neuroscience, education and ecological approaches, alongside Zoe’s professional and lived experience.

You will be introduced to six interconnected areas of everyday life:

• Senses and surroundings
• Thinking, planning and getting started
• Communication and processing
• Relationships and expectations
• Stress, emotions and regulation
• Time, transitions and routines

The guided reflection will invite you to consider one recurring situation or compare an environment that supports you with one that leaves you depleted. You will then identify one manageable change that may be worth exploring.

Questions submitted beforehand may be addressed where they relate to the workshop content and time allows. The main workshop content will take priority.

This is an introductory group workshop. It does not provide an individual assessment, personal environmental profile, therapy or a complete exploration of the Ecological Inclusion Framework.

You decide how much you wish to share. Speaking, discussing personal circumstances and participating in group conversation are entirely optional. Listening without contributing is completely welcome.

WHAT TO BRING

You are welcome to bring a fully charged smartphone, tablet or laptop if you would like to access the online resources during the workshop. Bringing a device is optional.
