See beyond behaviour. Understand what your child may be experiencing, why strategies may not work and what to change first.
About this Event

Perhaps you have received a diagnosis and been left wondering where to go next. You may be waiting for an assessment, exploring whether your child could be neurodivergent, or simply curious about whether a different approach could help.

You may already have found plenty of information. The difficult part is making sense of your own situation: understanding what is happening, what matters most and what you can realistically change first. You may be tired of trying to make your child fit approaches that were never designed for them? This workshop explores how changing the environment can create a better fit for their brain and nervous system.

You may be asking:

“Why do everyday situations become so difficult?”
“What might be sitting beneath the behaviour I can see?”
“Why do strategies help in one situation and fail in another?”
“Which demands are having the greatest impact on my child?”
“What manageable change could we try now?”

These are the kinds of questions the Ecological Inclusion Framework can help you begin to explore.

Understanding Neurodivergence is a practical, research-informed workshop for parents and carers who want to move from general information towards a clearer understanding of their child’s needs.

Neurodivergence includes autism, ADHD, dyslexia and many other ways of sensing, thinking, communicating and processing the world. Your child does not need a diagnosis for you to attend. Parents and carers who are exploring, waiting for assessment or supporting a diagnosed child are equally welcome.

WHAT WILL YOU GAIN?

During the workshop, you will be introduced to:

• neurodivergence in clear, everyday language, including how different needs can overlap
• how sensory conditions, cognitive demands, communication, relationships, regulation and time can interact
• questions that can help you consider what may be influencing a recurring difficulty beneath the visible behaviour
• reasons the same strategy may help in one context and fail in another
• a process for identifying one manageable environmental change you could try after the workshop

You will leave with one practical environmental change to try and will be directed to ways to explore the framework in more depth.

WHAT TO EXPECT

This two-hour workshop is a concise introduction to Zoe’s Ecological Inclusion Framework. The framework is research-informed, bringing together applied neuroscience, educational research and neurodiversity-affirming practice within one practical environmental lens.

The focus shifts from the impact the child has on their surroundings to how their surroundings may be influencing them.

The session includes a soft start, a short break, guided reflection and opportunities to connect with other parents and carers.

Questions submitted beforehand may be addressed where they relate to the workshop content and time allows. The main workshop content will take priority.

You will be introduced to six interconnected areas of everyday life:

• Senses and surroundings
• Thinking, planning and getting started
• Communication and processing
• Relationships and expectations
• Stress, emotions and regulation
• Time, transitions and routines

The guided reflection will offer an opportunity to use the framework to consider one recurring situation and identify one manageable environmental change to try.

This is an introductory group workshop rather than an individual assessment, personal environmental mapping or a complete exploration of the Ecological Inclusion Framework. You decide how much you wish to share, and participation in discussion is absolutely optional.

WHAT TO BRING

You are welcome to bring a fully charged smartphone, tablet or laptop if you would like to access the online resources during the workshop. Bringing a device is optional.
