Experts will discuss differentiating trauma from conditions like ASD, sensory processing challenges, and communication difficulties, offering practical strategies for intervention. The event will emphasize promoting mental health and resilience in young children post-pandemic.

Info: This presentation will offer a discussion on how mental health, loss, and trauma present behaviorally in young children. This is particularly of import given the high rates of anxiety and depression, even in our littles, in the post pandemic era. This presentation will also elucidate important developmental considerations in regards to the emotional and behavioral presentation of children who have experienced trauma. It will address how trauma impacts the infant/toddler and young child. Dr. Kiti, developer of the Trauma Loss & Compassion (TLC) Support group, will offer some strategies that can be effective when working with children who experience loss/trauma. Re-traumatization in children will also be discussed.

Differentiating Trauma & ASD: How to Understand behavior in children

Info: This presentation focuses on the ways in which developmental delay, mental health, and/or behavioral concerns can present as symptoms that are also characteristics of neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD but merit differential diagnostics and individualized interventions. This discussion will provide an understanding of the overlap of characteristics and how to begin to differentiate children who present with these characteristics.

Sensory Processing Differences: NDD vs Trauma

Info: This presentation will look at children’s behaviors from a sensory perspective. It will discuss processing of sensory inputs and the many ways children respond to them. It will also help participants recognize common behaviors that may result from sensory inputs and use strategies to manage or decrease them.
