About this Event
Understanding and Supporting 'PDA' (Pathological Demand Avoidance)
This half-day training session is designed to build confidence and understanding around Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and how it can present in children and young people.
The session will explore how PDA affects behaviour, communication, emotional regulation, and relationships, helping participants to better understand the why behind what they may be seeing day to day. We’ll look at PDA through a compassionate, strengths-based lens, with a strong focus on reducing anxiety and supporting positive outcomes.
Participants will be introduced to a range of practical, realistic strategies that can be used in educational, home, and support settings. There will be opportunities to reflect, discuss real-life scenarios, and practice applying strategies in a supportive learning environment.
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Have a greater understanding of PDA and how it impacts behaviour
- Have considered and practised strategies that support children and young people with PDA
- Feel more confident in responding to challenges in a flexible, informed way
- Feel able to support and share learning with others, helping to build wider understanding of PDA
This session is suitable for professionals, parents, carers, and anyone supporting children and young people with PDA or PDA-like profiles.
