'Unconformity' is a geological phenomenon revealing a missing span of millions of years between rock layers. (discovered 300 years ago by James Hutton at Siccar Point, Berwickshire, Scotland) This concept serves as a powerful metaphor for cultural loss: the ways in which histories can be fragmented, obscured or deliberately erased.

Through a series of conversations and pertormances, participants will explore these 'missing layers', considering how culture is shaped not only by what remains, but also by what has been lost. Organised by Stephen Skrynka and Annie Cattrell as a collaboration between The Revelator and The Royal Scottish Academy Annual Exhibition celebrating 200 years.

Event Photos

We are located in Barclay Curle, an ex shipyard. The Revelator is a circular art space and wall of death. Click on QR code for a clip of how to find us once you arrive. (As you come through the main entrance, we are to the left at the back of the building near the scrapyard.) Please dress for outside conditions. Access : all flat ground, if a bit bumpy. One step into the Revelator and a spiral stair to the viewing gallery at the top. The wall of death is 5m high. Inside is seated and upstairs is standing. It is a working building. You will be asked to sign a disclaimer upon entering. Entrance to this event is free but ticketed. The Revelator was built and is run by a group of volunteers. We are completely unfunded. Donations are welcome.
