About this Event
🇺🇦 Create Your Own Vyshyvanka!
Join us for a cozy and inspiring art workshop in the heart of San Francisco!
Vyshyvanka—Ukrainian ornaments aren’t just pretty patterns—they actually have deep meanings and stories behind them. Every design was created for a reason, often to bring luck, protection, or prosperity.
🌊 Take “kryvulka,” for example—it’s a wavy line that represents water, symbolizing life and renewal. People used to believe it could bring good fortune if embroidered on clothes.
🌹 Then there’s “rozhevy tsvit,” the rose flower pattern, which stands for beauty and femininity—you’ll see it a lot on traditional Ukrainian blouses (vyshyvankas).
☀️ One of the most powerful symbols is the “svarha,” a swirling sun shape that was meant to keep bad energy away. People carved it into houses or wove it into ceremonial towels (rushnyky) for protection.
Here’s the coolest part—Ukrainian women used to embroider secret messages into clothing. Imagine stitching little symbols into a shirt to attract love, strength, or even to keep bad luck away.
It’s incredible how much meaning was hidden in those details! Even today, these ornaments carry the spirit of the past, keeping traditions alive in the most beautiful way.
We can create these meaningful ornaments as an ARTWORK for your home—collect symbols with the meanings you need, turn them into a unique ornament, and then bring it to life in a painting!
