About this Event
Workshop Description
Create a hand cut recycled botanical collage with SF-based artist Austen Zombres. Austen has been creating a personal library of found cardboard packaging for over a decade and creating intricate figurative collage imagery with his material. In this workshop, attendees will learn about his practice by creating their own floral collages as well as many paper cutting techniques including scratching, etching, curving cuts and consistent long lines among others. Join us to take your paper arts game to the next level!
Please note we have a sliding scale for tickets for this event! The break down is as follows:
General Admission #1: Covers the cost of workshop and materials
General Admission #2: Covers cost of workshop, materials, and supports the instructor
General Admission #3: Covers cost of workshop, materials, supports the instructor, and helps keep our workshops more accessible
About Austen Zombres
Austen Zombres began painting and drawing as a teenager in Glen Ellen, but his recycled collages originated from necessity while he was living on a remote mountain top in Sonoma. Austen Zombres’ art seems almost impossibly precise, as if each work is laser-cut or perhaps even computer generated. With his layered collages, he elevates everyday objects etched into the American psyche — iconic sneakers and snack foods, french fries, cigarettes — then often surrounds them with pristine white space. Zombres uses a variety of techniques to create dimension and the illusion of shading: a piece of cardboard with a color variation mimics the metallic shine of a gold-toned lipstick case; yellow strips bend ever so slightly to create the light-and-shadow of crinkle-cut fries.
