This concert, titled “Two Worlds, one Amira”, celebrates both Amira Willighagen’s 21st birthday and Foundation Gelukskinders’ 10th anniversary. Gelukskinders’ main goal is to provide playgrounds for underprivileged children in South Africa. However, it was founded in the Netherlands, so its board is mostly made up of Dutch individuals, whereas its primary activities are carried out in South Africa. Similarly, Amira was born in the Netherlands, but has been living in South Africa for the past 7 years. This makes both Amira and Gelukskinders part of both the European and African worlds, as it were. This fact has greatly inspired this concert. For this reason, the concert will incorporate both western and African elements in terms of musical scores, stage decor, etc. This concert mainly features Amira Willighagen, renowned artist for various genres including opera, operette, musical, and cross-over. Other artists, also renowned for their musical talent, performing alongside her include Lynelle Kenned, Thandolwethu Longo, and Stéfan Louw. A small orchestra of wings, winds, and percussion will accompany them. Last but not least, Deedee Oosthuizen is the Musical Director for this concert. She has been directing many highly successful productions before.
