Turning homes into renewable Power Stations: film screening & Discussion

Join your local community in watching ‘Power Station’ - an inspiring and uplifting new film about how we can turn our homes and our streets into renewable power stations. We will be joined by Hilary Powell, one of the film's stars and co-director for an online Q&A.

This will be screened alongside some short films featuring Glasgow Community Energy, our local community-owned renewable energy co-operative.

‘Power Station’ is about two artists in Walthamstow who set out to take their street off the grid, kickstarting a solar-powered energy revolution.

Inspired by lockdown mutual aid initiatives, artist-activists Hilary Powell and Dan Edelstyn decided to turn their street into an energy-generating powerhouse – a prototype for a new way of living, with the hope of kickstarting a wider push towards sustainable alternatives.

Directed by the duo, ‘Power Station’ charts their turbulent journey, from pitching the idea to their neighbours and sleeping on the roof of their home, to raising finance and launching a bid for a Christmas number one single.

By turns funny and heartwarming, Powell and Edelstyn’s film is a vibrant portrait of their local neighbourhood, and a charming testament to the power of art and community in changing minds about what could be possible for a better future for everyone.

We’ll have teas, coffees and vegan food available along with time for discussion after the film. Everyone is very welcome! This event is organised by Glasgow School of Art, Glasgow Community Energy, Friends of the Earth Scotland, Unison Glasgow and Extinction Rebellion Glasgow.
