About this Event

From idea to Business

Are you 12 - 19 years old and are ready to turn a brilliant idea into a real business? Join us in person for an awesome event where you’ll get the lowdown on making your dreams happen. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to level up, this is the place to be. Don’t miss out on meeting cool people and picking up tips that actually work!

This 90 minute interactive workshop is broght to you by YTC in partnership with Brooklyn Public Library and is designed to help young people bridge the gap between their personal interests and professional ventures. By focusing on the transition from a simple thought to a structured business concept, participants aged 12–19 will explore how their existing skills—ranging from tech and fashion to organizing and art—can solve real-world problems. The session creates a low-pressure environment where the goal is not perfection, but rather the discovery of how entrepreneurship can fit into various life paths, whether as a side hustle or a full-time career.
During the core of the session, participants will engage in an Idea Generator exercise to define exactly what they are offering and who their customers are. The curriculum covers the essential components of business structure, helping attendees identify what makes their idea unique or valuable within their community. By combining their talents with specific "help" statements, participants move from abstract brainstorming to a clear, concrete business sentence that outlines their value proposition.
The final segment emphasizes the "Simple Start-Up Principles," teaching youth how to test their ideas using resources they already have without needing immediate funding or formal legal structures.

  • Each participant will complete a Mini Business Blueprint, which acts as a roadmap for their offering, target audience, and marketing strategy.
  • By the end of the workshop, every attendee will leave with one tangible step they can take within seven days to bring their new business concept to life.
