Tracing William Francis Eve (1894 – 1981)
Family history and genealogy continues to fascinate us, and indeed is increasing hugely in popularity, aided massively by the convenience of the internet. So many of us, dislocated from our roots, are driven to find out about our families’ pasts. This same motivation spurred Chris on to explore the life and locations of his Grandfather, the late William Francis Eve, who lived in Harrow from about 1906 – 1960. Like most of his generation, he was a veteran of the Great War, witnessing the amazing Christmas truce of 1914. The difference was, he kept a secret trench diary! Find out about this, where he lived and what he did after WW1.
About the Speaker:
Chris Eve is a practising genealogist, an IHGS correspondence student, as well as English tutor, living in Lancaster. He has been researching his family history since the 1980s, including where his father, grandparents and great-grandparents came from in Harrow. Chris was briefly, the Local History Librarian for the London Borough of Barnet, back in 1993.
