Step into the warmth and wonder of the festive season with Choral Christmas by Candlelight a spellbinding evening of music and readings in the historic setting of St Mary’s Church Harrow on the Hill.

The music programme has something for everyone. The group will perform a huge range of festive music from the stunning Renaissance works of Victoria and the grandeur of Bach to the earthy folk-carols of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Zoltán Kodály. The night will also feature top operatic soloists festive readings and even some vocal jazz. Of course there will be plenty of classic carols for everyone to sing along to.
Accompanied by piano and cello this evocative evening promises moments of reflection exuberance and festive cheer and is the perfect way to begin the Christmas season. The concert will also feature the ChChoristers of St Mary’s Harrow on the Hill whose angelic young voices will lead us in singing well-known Christmas carols.
Join us for a night of music candlelight and celebration at one of Harrow’s most beautiful churches.
The Alma Consort is directed by Luca Wetherall and Izzy Mohan (Director of Music at St Mary’s). Coming from top institutions like the University of Oxford and the Royal Academy of Music their goal was to build a different kind of choir: a group of London’s best professional singers who could move effortlessly between classical pop and jazz. This Christmas concert will be their first major public performance.
The venue itself is part of the draw. St Mary’s isn’t just a backdrop; it’s Harrow’s oldest building a Grade-I listed landmark consecrated in 1094. It’s the church where a young Lord Byron as a schoolboy used to sit in the churchyard and write poetry. Experiencing music in a space like this lit only by candles promises to be an unforgettable evening.
