Truro School sixth form drama presents Shakespeare's abiding masterpiece.
About this Event
But break, my heart, for I must hold my tongue
Truro School sixth form drama presents Shakespeare's abiding masterpiece. Recalled suddenly from University, young Hamlet has to simultaneously process grief at the unexpected loss of a beloved father and horror at a mother's hasty remarriage. What makes it worse, Hamlet's new step father is her devious uncle. And he has also blithely claimed the throne for himself, sidelining Hamlet as an irrelevance. Who could take this young, difficult, 'alternative', sensitive thinker seriously as a possible monarch? A desperate train of events is set in motion that Hamlet has to navigate, all the while berating herself for her inability to take action, while also wounded by her mother's insensitivity, betrayed by fair-weather friends and tragically spurned by her beloved soulmate Ophelia. This adaptation breathes fresh life into a classic story, with pacey action, a banging score of contemporary pop music, a healthy dose of unexpected comedy, and a poignant strand of family tragedy running through it.
