About this Event
It is our pleasure to welcome writer, researcher and lecturer Paul Taylor-McCartney to Waterstones to discuss his new book 'Cornwall Uncharted: Mapping Cornwall's Queer History of Concealment, Culture and Creativity'.
The book reveals the county's vibrant queer histories for the first time, tracing a hidden tapestry of creativity and community from the eighteenth century to today. Through an original synthesis of art and literary analysis – examining studio paintings, poetry, novels, and private manuscripts – as well as meticulous archival research in coaching-inn records, market ledgers, architectural surveys and wartime reminiscences, this rigorous study reconstructs the social and cultural worlds where nonconforming lives were forged.
Previously, Paul's poetry, short fiction and academic articles have appeared in a wide range of print and digital media, as well as publishing his debut novel, 'Sisters of the Pentangle', with Hermitage Press in 2022 - the first in the Broken Pentangle series. 'Cornwall Uncharted' is his debut non-fiction publication.
Join Paul to discover more about his writing, and his work to bring marginalised voices to the fore. The talk will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.
