Join us this Halloween for Trunk or Treat, a FREE all ages community event!
This event will feature hot meals, a live DJ, a movie (The Nightmare Before Christmas), candy, costumes, arts & crafts, face painting, pumpkin carving, temporary tattoos & much more!

✨️ Time: 2pm to 6pm
⚰️ Place: Target ; 115 River Hills Rd, Asheville, NC 28805 (Google maps has 2 updated routes)
A note from the organizer:
Hey y'all! My name is Jessica Brightsen! This year, thanks to my dad Gordon Brightsen, I was inspired to put together a trunk or treat! He birthed the idea, and I'm just here making it come to fruition. It's no secret, we've all been through a lot lately, honestly, we've been through enough. While we are all feeling an immense amount of grief and loss, it's been absolutely amazing and powerful to watch our community come together during one of the most difficult tragedies our Appalachian community has ever faced. Together, we seem to be getting through it. Our youngins are experiencing their own kinds of trauma trying to process what's actually happened here, and that's heavy. It's up to us to provide a sense of normalcy. It's important for our kids to get back to having a fun outlet while navigating their own grievances. Halloween is around the corner, kids are already wondering if it's been canceled, and they can rest assured, it's not!
Let's make it happen! 👻
💗 PARENTS! We will have a plethora of costumes being donated! I will post a list and keep it updated as the days grow closer. Sure, come dressed up if you already have it but also, it's not necessary.. all are welcome, dressed up or not. We will have some costumes for children who have maybe lost the opportunity to get a costume this year. No one will feel left out, no child left behind 🥰
*We will also have face painting and temporary tattoo stations set up!🎃
*We will have free hot meals on site. So dinner is covered 😋
*There will be a small donation area just for the kids with toys, jackets and blankets for the taking. (Take what you need and be sure to leave enough for others)🧡
*We will have a stage and a large LED screen playing some of our favorite childhood Halloween movies including The Nightmare Before Christmas 👻
*All of our trunkers will have candy, and decorations can be provided to you to help bring Halloween to life!
Please feel free to bring whatever decorations you have tho. Doesn't hurt to have more spooky vibes!🪦🦇🌜
*BYOP! Bring your own pumpkin, we will have a pumpkin carving station and kits! (must be accompanied by a parent while using kit tools). No worries if you can't bring a pumpkin, some pumpkins will be donated as well.(Limited supplies while it lasts) Take your pumpkin home.🎃☺️🧡
*If anyone is interested, we will have a therapist stationed on site for anyonewho wishes to talk to her. She specializes in child therapy and expressed she would like to offer some of her time and services to those in need ❤️ She's ready to set up future private sessions.💖
We encourage folks to carpool, and we also encourage folks to bring a neighbor. I know some of us are currently facing transportation issues. We just want to include as many people as we can and this is a surefire way to accomplish that!! P.s. our city buses are running, and as of now (10/18), the buses are free.
We also encourage folks to bring lawn chairs, if you have them, let's hangout and celebrate together! We need it now more than ever to gather and create some fun filled memories to the best of our abilities.
My mission was to make this event as free of charge as possibble, with everything ready and accessible for the children, and for all you amazing parents doing the most right now to keep safe. Many of us have lost our incomes along with everything else we are mourning. So, while our usual trunk or treat plans may not be happening this year as our parking lots have been commandeered for survival resources.. We have found a plan B. It's time to step out for a little while and step in to having a little fun! We won't let Halloween be canceled this year.
