Tribal Roundtable on Plastic Pollution | May 26 Hosted by the Big Valley Band of Pomo Indians
Join tribal, state, and community representatives for a roundtable discussion on reducing single-use plastics and addressing plastic pollution under SB 54 and the Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund (PPMF).
State agency partners — including CalEPA, CNRA, the Strategic Growth Council, and CalRecycle — will present on current initiatives and explore collaboration opportunities with tribal representatives. Additional presentations will be offered by the Native American Fiber Program on their indigenous-led Microplastics Awareness Initiative, and by Environmental Justice Communities Against Plastics (EJCAP) on community-centered solutions to plastic pollution.
The event will close with a site visit led by the Big Valley Environmental Protection Department, showcasing local ecosystem restoration and plastic pollution mitigation work.

About Senate Bill 54 and the Plastic Pollution Mitigation Fund
California’s Plastic Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsibility Act (SB 54, 2022), creates an extended producer responsibility (EPR) program for packaging and single-use plastic food service ware, shifting end-of-life management from the public to producers and establishes the PPMF.
Beginning in July 2027, California will receive $500 million annually for ten years from producers of plastics through PPMF. This $5 billion investment is dedicated to repairing ecosystems, protecting public health, and prioritizing benefits for communities most impacted by pollution.
