Seasonal Tree Tour in Aylestone Rec (north) and St Mary's Open Space

Up to 2 hours, steady pace. About 1.8 miles with information stops along the way.
Join us for a guided walk through two of Leicester's lovely green spaces, presented by the volunteer Tree Wardens. This seasonal stroll takes in selected trees in Aylestone Rec (north) and St Mary's Open Space. St Mary's Open Space has many mature fruit trees across the site, plus a very young community orchard which is just establishing. The Tree Wardens will provide interesting snippets of information to enjoy, as you wander around these beautiful green spaces. Our route will include some soft (unsurfaced) grass paths and slopes, so may not be wheelchair accessible. We take a little more time than previous tree tours because we include two green spaces, via residential streets. Step out and enjoy summertime in nature.

Toilets are available in Aylestone Leisure Centre at the start.
Booking information
This short walk is free to attend, but numbers are limited. Adults, please book via Eventbrite to secure your place or phone 0116 454 2860 when booking has opened. Booking is not required for children, but kids must be accompanied by an adult. Please note our phone line is answered during office hours only (Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm), not at weekends or bank holidays.
If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone (during office hours)so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.
Travel
Aylestone Leisure Centre is located at the corner of Saffron Lane and Knighton Lane East, and is served by buses . There is a car park at the Leisure Centre. You can now pay bus fare via "tap on" and "tap off" with a preferred contactless payment method. The system will cap all fares at the best value adult ticket.
New Walkers
If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form. You will receive an email in advance with details on how to complete the form. You only need to do this once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite).
Dress for the weather
Remember to dress appropriately for the weather. Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:
- Comfortable sturdy footwear
- Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
- On cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacket
- On warmer days a sunhat and sunscreen are recommended.
Please do bring a bottle of water with you.
Group size
We kindly ask walkers to book their place, so we can keep our group size manageable.
