About this Event

Tree Canada, in collaboration with the City of Edmonton's Root for Trees, is excited to celebrate National Tree Day (NTD), presented by BMO. National Tree Day connects local action to national impact—when Canadians participate across the country, we grow a movement that reflects who we are and the future we want to build. Join us at Terwillegar Park to plant trees and steward the land. Tree Canada experts and experienced volunteers will be on hand to support you and answer your questions. We’ll provide gloves and shovels—all you need to bring is your enthusiasm!

How you'll be making an impact

Terwillegar Park is a large natural park in southwest Edmonton, located along the south bank of the North Saskatchewan River. Known for its extensive off-leash dog area, scenic multi-use trails, and river access, the park is a popular destination for walking, hiking, mountain biking, and canoeing.

In honour of National Tree Day, volunteers will plant trees, remove invasive species and apply compost. These activities support biodiversity by improving habitat and providing food sources for local wildlife and pollinators. Together, these restoration efforts enhance ecosystem health, increase native species diversity, and help create a more resilient and sustainable park environment.

Free Food:

Volunteers can grab a snack, courtesy of Vachon.

What to wear and bring:

Volunteers should wear and bring the following:

• Water bottle
• Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or boots
• Long pants
• Comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
• Sunscreen
• Bug spray
• Hat
• Hand sanitizer

This rain or shine event will take place unless the forecast calls for thunderstorms or very heavy rainfall.
