Root for Trees is thrilled to host the 2026 Food Forest Event in the Silverberry community. This family-friendly event celebrates fruiting trees and shrubs native to the Edmonton area. Plant a tree or shrub, join interactive activities and learn about Edmonton’s urban forest!

Event Highlights:

• Plant local, healthy, affordable and accessible fruit-bearing species
• Support native pollinators, birds and ecological health
• Connect with your community
• Receive a free wildflower plant to take home
• Cool off with complimentary Kind Ice cream while supplies last

Important Considerations

• Dress for the weather. A jacket and long pants are recommended!
• Wear closed-toe shoes to participate in planting. Crocs are considered open-toed shoes.
• Bring your own water and snacks.

Weather

Root for Trees will plant rain or shine! However, in the event of severe weather, volunteer plantings may be shortened or cancelled for staff and public safety.

Severe weather conditions that would necessitate cancellation include:

• Thunderstorms or lightning
• Temperature equal to or above 34°C, including the Humidex
• Wind, including gusts, of over 45 km/h
• An air quality health index (AQHI) of 7 or above
