Meteor Shower Watchparty: Campfire Side Sky Stories
Advertisement
Have you ever seen a shooting star? Count meteors & celebrate the land & sky with campfire stories, food, telescopes, and art!
The Persied meteor shower is an annual celestial event where the Earth moves through the debris field of an ancient comet, (Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle) who passes through our solar system once every 133 years. We see this debris as meteors that streak across our skies.
There are many ancient cycles that happen on Earth, and in the sky above our heads. From birds migrating, to fireflies glowing among the trees - these cycles require dark undisturbed skies.
On August 15th - we'll celebrate these ancient cycles and the one thing protecting our ability to experience them and revel in our shared cultural heritage - conservation.
🌼 The night will begin with guided nature walks
🔥 Later, we'll settle in around the campfire making bannock on a stick learning the stories of the sky and forest from knowledge keepers who keep these ancient stories alive
✨ As the night continues there will be telescopes to explore deep space, crafts, and long exposure light painting so you have pictures to take home with you!
🚌 There will be a bus shuttle service from Edmonton to Miquelon Lake - if you require a bus PLEASE purchase your seat ticket under the "add on" option before you finalize your purchase - seats are limited and there is a cost associated with them. Bus departs from Miquelon at 1:00am.
