Join us for a glimpse into the ways of the truly oral Drut’syla storytelling tradition. Passed down through generations, from grandmother to granddaughter, this tradition teaches, above all, an understanding of the nature of story itself. Expect wondering and wandering, discovering the extraordinary in the ordinary, and playful ways of bringing images to life.
If you’ve visited Grand Pillow Society events before, chances are you've heard the name Shonaleigh Cumbers mentioned more than once. Her influence on how story is shared and understood within the Pillow Society is profound. And yet, she has never been here in person. Which is why we are so delighted that Shonaleigh is coming to Groningen to offer an introductory workshop.
This workshop is suitable for teachers, people new to storytelling, and more experienced storytellers who are curious about learning within the Drut’syla tradition. The workshop will be in English, but the exercises may be done in any language that suits you best.
Shonaleigh is one of Europe’s leading storytellers and the holder of the Drut’syla storytelling tradition. She began learning the art of story at the age of four from her grandmother, who passed on more than 3,000 interconnected oral stories. None of these stories were ever written down: folktales and wondertales, myths and legends, all passed from her bubbe’s (grandmother’s) lips to her ears.
Price: € 55
Student price: € 35
