Yoga is the ultimate Somatic practice. A somatic practice tends to the body’s physical, and mental, reactions to a stress response. When we experience stress, certain parts of the body will get tense to prepare to get us to safety. This tension can get trapped in the body and keep us activated in a stress response, or in anxiety. Research tells us that body awareness and breathing mindfulness together are powerful tools for bringing the body and brain down from stress activation and into more calm presence. And this is exactly what we do in Trauma Informed Somatic Yoga. We use simple yoga postures and specific breathing techniques to soothe the brain and soften the body. It’s magical! And is often why we LOVE yoga so much. It helps us to reduce stress, anxiety, and pain.
Cat offers this 3 week series to give you a toolkit to help you navigate the stresses, and traumas, of life without getting taken down, or taken over, by those experiences.
You will learn:
What to do when you feel like you’re going to jump out of your skin, can’t sleep or relax
Quick ways to process stress chemistry through the body so you don’t get stuck in the adrenaline/cortisol soup
Ayurvedic and Yogic breathing techniques to clear trauma from the brain, settle the brain after a stressful experience, and balance the nervous system
Trauma Informed Yoga sequences
How to cultivate a sense of safety using yoga postures, movement, breathing practices, meditations, and mudras (hand gestures)
