In partnership with the Bodecker Foundation, Scan Design Foundation, and featuring SCRAP Creative Reuse Pdx, and ReClaim It by Cracked Pots.Come to this family-friendly event and learn how to turn “trash” into treasured art!
This event is the perfect time to visit our Ole Bolle troll, whether it is the first or the fifth time! We are taking inspiration from artist Thomas Dambo, the recycle artist and activist who created Ole Bolle. Recycling and reusing items is one of the best ways to keep our planet clean. Why throw away when you can reuse? At this event you’ll reuse cardboard, wood, paint, plastic, and much, much more.
Birdhouse Decorating
Our Ole Bole troll is part of the Way of the Bird King project by Thomas Dambo. All along the United States bird houses were hung along with Dambo trolls. This is your opportunity to decorate your very own birdhouse. We will have a limited supply of birdhouses, all made from recycled wood. This is an optional add-on to the event. The $10 ticket includes a birdhouse and an extra raffle entry.
Fairy House Making
Make your own fairy house out of natural forest materials like bark, twigs, acorns, moss, leaves, and vines, as well as reuse materials provided by SCRAP. This is free, no ticket purchase required.
Troll Cardboard Costume Creating
Create your own wearable giant troll hands and feet from cardboard! Make a costume inspired by Ole Bolle or something from your own imagination. Materials are provided, but bringing your own cardboard is encouraged! This is free, no ticket purchase required.
SCRAP Creative Reuse Crafts, Mini Mall, and Donation Collection
Learn from the pros at SCRAP Creative Reuse where they take in mountains of donated materials, sort them, organize them, and teach folks how to use them creatively! Create cork creatures, dis-Card-bowls, collages, and other cool crafts. Fill a bag from their free “Mini Mall” of discarded materials to use on your other crafts at the event, and to take home and continue your crafting!
Donate materials from home to SCRAP at the event! Check their Accepted Materials list online before the event, and bring a bag to donate. Your trash will become someone else’s treasure! Accepted Materials: https://portland.scrapcreativereuse.org/Material_Donation
ReClaim It Table and Trash Panda Station
Learn about ReClaim it where they visit the Municipal Transfer Station (aka: the “dump”) and find amazing things to save and refurbish. Their motto is Reuse, Repair, Reimagine! Become an honorary Trash Panda (raccoon), and make your own Trash Panda tail like their mascot Trashleigh!
More Fun
The Traveling Typist will be on hand to type up Creature Sightings and poems on the spot, and provide cool typewriters to try your hand at. Type your own poem to add to your crafts!
