About this Event

Transpiration reflects on the entanglements that enrich and complicate our lives. In the midst of storm targets, geomagnetic activity, and digital alteration, these poems consider the possibilities for intimacy with the natural world around us and with each other. The pamphlet grieves for what has been left behind and what will be lost in the future through the actions of human hands. Yet life goes on: through the skin, the pulse, ‘so many different ways to breathe’.

Alycia Pirmohamed is a Canadian-born poet based in Scotland. In 2023, she won the Nan Shepherd Prize for her nonfiction debut Shorelines, forthcoming with Canongate in 2026. She is the author of the poetry collection Another Way to Split Water. She is part of 'field notes collective', a nature writing project alongside Jessica J. Lee, Nina Mingya Powles and Pratyusha. this too is a glistening, their collaborative pamphlet, was published by Bitter Melon 苦瓜 in 2024. Her other works include the pamphlets Hinge (ignitionpress, 2020), Faces that Fled the Wind, and Second Memory, which was co-authored with Pratyusha. Alycia is the co-founder of the Scottish BPOC Writers Network, a co-organiser of the Ledbury Poetry Critics Program, and she currently teaches on the Creative Writing master's programme at the University of Cambridge.

Jeehan Ashercook is a writer and poet from Edinburgh and DFA candidate in Creative Writing at the University of Glasgow. Her work explores themes of journeying, drift, nomadism and migration. She has been published in Gutter, Speculative Books, Osmosis Press and FoMA Press. She won first prize for The Voice of Peace Continental Anthology Competition, was long-listed for the John Dryden Translation Competition and was a John Byrne Award top-ten finalist. She has performed her works at various book launches, exhibitions, and festivals including Edinburgh Multicultural Festival, Connect Festival and King Tut’s Music Festival.
