Translink Stories at Saltwater Walking Tours

Step into Stories at Saltwater, a guided walking tour through Saltwater Square and Belfast Grand Central Station, exploring the art, heritage and hidden history built into one of Belfast’s newest civic spaces.

Led by Creative Tours Belfast, each tour will bring the square’s stories to life, from the hidden rivers flowing beneath your feet to the murals, public art and heritage features that reflect Belfast’s people, industry, movement and connection.

Across the route, you’ll hear more about:

• The story behind Saltwater Square and its name
• Belfast’s hidden rivers, including the Blackstaff River and Pound Burn
• The area’s links to linen, industry, transport and community life
• The Saltwater Stories murals and the people, places and ideas behind them
• When Walls Speak Welcome, the schools-led public art project shaped by young people
• The legacy of the Boyne Bridge and the reused heritage features within the square
• Reflections, the landmark public artwork at the heart of Saltwater Square

The tour is free to attend, but booking is required.

Tours will begin inside Belfast Grand Central Station, at the Weavers Cross model - on the left hand side of station doors when using Saltwater Square station entrance

Please arrive a few minutes before the tour start time.

• The tour will last approximately 60 to 70 minutes.
• The route is outdoors for part of the experience, so please dress for the weather.
• Spaces are limited and must be booked in advance.
• The tour is suitable for anyone interested in Belfast’s history, public art, local stories and the changing city centre.

Stories at Saltwater is part of the wider Summer at Saltwater programme, bringing activity, culture and community into Saltwater Square.

The tours are designed to help people pause, look closer and understand the meaning built into the space, from the history beneath the ground to the artworks now shaping Belfast’s newest gateway.
