The Morgan Horse Club of WA State is excited to bring you our first clinic of 2025! OPEN TO ALL BREEDS. Does you horse run screaming from the simplest of obstacles or ask you if he should investigate the thing that scares him?
Does she carefully consider where to place her feet or belly flop over an obstacle?
Mountain trail is a combination of finesse, precision and trust. This clinic will help participants develop a partnership of mutual trust with their horse to negotiate obstacles in harmony, as well as understand the philosophy and methodology of mastering the courses.
In each of the sessions, participants will start out with understanding control of the body... with moving forward, backward, sideways; moving the hindquarters and forequarters; moving each foot individually; and, bending.
In addition to body mechanics, participants will learn how to build confidence with obstacles. Whether it's crossing water, a high bridge, a balance beam or a tarp, learning the methodology for transforming your horse's fear into confidence is critical for Mountain Trail competitions.
And finally, there's the timing and balance. Participants will help their horses learn both timing to negotiate foot falls for spaced poles, obstacle approaches, or log falls. Similarly, balance will be a components deal with in helping their horses negotiate balance beams, 360 turns on narrow bridges or precision foot work.
When these elements are combined, people begin experiencing things they never imagined possible with their horses. Horses will take responsibility for negotiating obstacles, see the obstacles as a safe space; and take pride in doing a good job.
