In this workshop, participants will learn how to make paper in the traditional European method and also learn about the history of papermaking. They will learn about various fibers which can be used in this process, and their properties, as well as discuss how to process plants into paper.Evolved in the 15th century in Europe, this is one of the simplest methods of sheetforming. This technique uses a mould and deckle constructed of wood and metal (or plastic) and can be easily adapted to papermaking at home, with materials you may have in your gardens or kitchens.
In this workshop we'll make paper from cotton, linen and abaca.
At the end of the workshop, students will have a stack of handmade papers from various fibers. In addition, you will have gained a foundation for making paper on your own.
