About this Event
What Giftedness Means, and What Tradewinds Offers
A conversation with Head of School Carl Sabatino and founder Andy Szybalski
Many bright children do well in school. Gifted children are something else entirely—they think faster, connect ideas others miss, and hunger for depth that typical classrooms cannot provide. They often struggle in otherwise excellent schools, not because the schools are failing, but because they weren't designed for minds like these.
Join us to explore:
- The difference between "schoolhouse gifted" and gifted—and why that distinction matters for your child's trajectory
- What a specialized gifted program actually looks like, and how it differs from acceleration or enrichment
- How Tradewinds is designed around no speed limits on learning, intellectual peers, and multiple paths through school
- Whether Tradewinds might be the right fit for your family
This isn't a sales pitch. It's a conversation for families trying to figure out what their child actually needs.
Bring your kids! We've enlisted Wrenn Okada—ʻIolani's Lower School Robotics Coordinator and FLL Coach—to lead them in an engaging Lego STEM project during the program.
Tradewinds School opens Fall 2026 for grades 1–5 as Hawaiʻi's first elementary school designed specifically for gifted learners.
This event is for prospective families only. Educators and professionals interested in learning about Tradewinds, please reach out directly at [email protected]
