The film "Trad" is a coming-of-age story that follows Shóna McAnally, a gifted fiddle player from Donegal, as she embarks on a cross-country journey with a troupe of wandering musicians. The film explores themes of youth, rebellion, and identity through the lens of traditional Irish music. Directed by Lance Daly, it features a cast that includes Megan Nic Fhionnghaile and Aidan Gillen, and it has been praised for its authentic representation of the music scene and the emotional depth of its storytelling. The film has received positive reviews for its cinematography and the performances of its young cast, highlighting the importance of music in shaping personal identity.
This tour of TRAD is brought to you by Collective, an initiative from Film Hub NI and Queen’s Film Theatre that brings the best of homegrown film directly to audiences. Presented as part of the Fleadh at Queen’s programme in July and August, the tour celebrates Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026 coming to Belfast for the first time and the rich tradition of Irish music and heritage.
