TRACKING TO TAKE ACTION: Conservation Canine Operations Workshop (2-Day)
27–28 June 2026
Northwest Scentwork is pleased to host Keith Sparks of Take Action Zimbabwe for a two-day workshop focused on operational tracking and conservation canine work. Supported by Emma Goodwin and Sally Smith.
This workshop is designed for experienced trainers and handlers with an interest in animal and human tracking within conservation and enforcement contexts. The programme will be delivered in a workshop format combining theory, practical elements, and facilitated discussion, with time allocated for scenario-based problem solving and shared learning.
Key themes include:
• Operating environments: remote wilderness (hundreds of thousands of acres) through to urban settings
• Wildlife crime realities: organised rhino/elephant poaching, meat and fish poaching, and habitat destruction
• Operational challenges: dangerous game areas, comms and formations, contamination control, temperature management
• Tracking phases: start → middle → end, including proximity indicators, transitions, and forensic considerations
• Technology in the field, handler selection, offender tactics, arrests and the court process
• Cross-over learning: what translates between Zimbabwe and the UK (and what does not)
Places are strictly limited:
• 6 Handler spaces — £200
• 6 Spectator spaces — £160
Not-for-profit event (fees set to cover costs only).
