Tour: Affordable Housing & Mass Timber Modular Construction @ Distel Circle

This educational tour offers an in-depth look at Distel Circle, the first 100 percent affordable housing project in Los Altos and a first-of-its-kind construction approach in the Bay Area. The five-story multi-family development combines four stories of modular residential construction atop a cross-laminated timber (CLT) podium, demonstrating an innovative response to both housing and community needs. The project highlights how mass timber can support sustainability goals through renewable material use, enhance biophilic design with warm, natural wood aesthetics, and streamline the construction process. . Attendees will tour the building and learn about the integration of modular construction and mass timber systems, including detailing and construction sequencing. The tour format encourages questions and discussion, and participants will leave with practical insights into how innovation, flexibility, and sustainability informed key design, material, and construction decisions.
