Topeka Fire Department Station Relocation Public Input Sessions

The Topeka Fire Department is inviting residents to attend a series of public information sessions to learn about and provide feedback on the department’s proposed 2026 Fire Station Relocation Plan.
The proposed plan is designed to improve emergency response times, reduce insurance costs for residents in underserved areas, and address operational challenges associated with aging fire station facilities. The plan builds on years of evaluation and analysis aimed at expanding four-minute emergency response coverage across the city.
According to the proposal, the recommended relocations would increase four-minute response coverage from 75% of Topeka households to 82%, placing an additional 3,600 households within the target response area.
The proposed relocation plan includes:
• Construction of a new Fire Station 13 at 6th Street and Governor’s Place.
• Construction of a new Fire Station 11 at Lyman Road and North Topeka Boulevard.
• Construction of a new Fire Station 6 at Billard Airport.
• Repurposing the current Fire Stations 1, 6, and 11 for other public safety and operational needs.
Residents are encouraged to attend one of the three public information sessions.
