Tom Mac at Oodies Cafe - Bundaberg
Some stories feel right at home in a place like Oodies, where authenticity matters and good music is meant to be felt, not forced.
Tom Mac’s journey began with a moment of clarity during a university lecture - four years into a degree he didn’t love, staring down a future that didn’t fit. Refusing to settle, he chose music instead, though the road was far from smooth. After releasing his debut album in 2010, Tom was encouraged to abandon his country roots in favour of a pop sound. The shift cost him momentum, confidence, and ultimately, his voice.
Turning his focus to building his music booking agency, Aura Music, Tom stepped away from releasing records - but the songwriting never stopped.
During the pandemic, a journey to the Northern Territory to learn the didgeridoo from its source became a turning point, reconnecting him to spirit, land and truth. From that moment, everything realigned. His authentic sound has since resonated widely, earning nearly a million streams, editorial playlisting across Spotify and Apple Music, and regular rotation on Kix Country, Nova Fresh Country, Triple M Country and ABC Country.
From the Gympie Muster to the Baralaba Bash, and sharing stages with Eskimo Joe and Kim Churchill, Tom now enters a defining new era as he launches his brand new single 'Brave'.
Drawing on country tradition and modern influences like Morgan Wallen and Chris Stapleton - alongside classics such as Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen - Tom blends guitar, vocals, harmonica and didgeridoo to create a sound that’s unmistakably his own.
