We will meet at the Salmon Statue, at the Mount Vernon Riverfront, where the farmers market is held.
We will gather at 5pm.
Stay as long as you are able, we are gathering to honor our dead and grieve together. This is a needed goodbye, and a chance to hold each other, comfort one another, and let it all out. We're going to need to let our feelings out, so that we can face the next year together, and work hard to prevent suicides and keep each other safe from harm whenever possible. We cannot push these things down; we need to honor those who have fallen, have whatever closure is possible, so that we may gather strength to pull through the hard days, and also- enjoy and celebrate trans joy any time there is an opportunity to enjoy the LIFE we will have as we stand together in the face of bigotry, prejudice, and violence. Being Trans is not to only experience sadness. yet, how are we to experience joy if we do not give ourselves times to grieve? It is important that we see our community as it is: eternal and enduring, oppression mixed with cherished self expression and moments of love and happiness. Thus, we gather to Honor those who have passed, let go, let ourselves be sad and angry, and bolster our conviction to live for those transgender people who will be born in the coming years. We don't have to be strong all the time. In that, we find our strength.
What happened to Sam Nordquist is a loss that will go down in history as repugnant, vile, hateful, and cruel. He will not be forgotten. We gather not to dwell on the hideous and inhumane details of hours death, and many others, but to acknowledge those evils, and honor the LIVES of those lost forever to suicide and violence.
