Week 3 of the Festival | Today’s Voices features the in-person appearance of Venezuelan composer Reinaldo Moya, whose quartet Yara explores Venezuelan origin stories through string writing braided with Venezuelan musical forms. Moya joins the ensemble for discussion at all three concerts.
“What an incredible opportunity for audiences to speak with and hear from one of the great composers of our generation,” Freivogel says.
The program also includes Caroline Shaw’s Entr’acte, Edgar Meyer’s Duet No. 2 for Cello and Bass, and Dvořák’s String Quintet in G major, Op. 77, featuring Anthony Manzo on double bass.
The Jasper String Quartet performs at the core of this program: J Freivogel and Karen Kim, violin; Andrew Gonzalez, viola; and Rachel Henderson Freivogel, cello.
The Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas is a 57 Season, world-class classical concert series set in the mountains of North and South Carolina. Each performance features a small ensemble of exceptional artists who bring the music to life through spoken introductions and virtuosic playing. Chamber music is uniquely intimate - every voice matters, and the result is a living conversation audiences can only experience live.
