PARLOR TO PUB: The Great Experiment | Week 2
Week 2 of the Festival highlights the 18th century, the era in which the democratic experiment was born, with baroque music including the rediscovered music of Charles Ignatius Sancho, who in 1774 became the first person of African descent to vote in a British general election, alongside Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks, performed entirely on period instruments.
The entire program is performed on period instruments, with gut strings, baroque bow technique, period oboe, recorder, and harpsichord, recreating the sound world these composers wrote for.
Cynthia Freivogel, violin
Debra Nagy, oboe & recorder
Rachel Henderson Freivogel, cello
Artem Belogurov, harpsichord
The Chamber Music Society of the Carolinas is a 57 Season, world-class classical concert series set in the mountains of North and South Carolina. Each performance features a small ensemble of exceptional artists who bring the music to life through spoken introductions and virtuosic playing. Chamber music is uniquely intimate - every voice matters, and the result is a living conversation audiences can only experience live.
