Enjoy brunch, savor the music, taste the story! Join us for a deliciously laid-back Sunday as we serve up sizzling jazz, fresh bites, and lively conversation. Ticket prices include a fabulous brunch by Sandy Springs PAC Executive Chef Karl Elliott.
Each month celebrated pianist Joe Alterman brings along his favorite musical guests for a one-of-a-kind jazz brunch, blending smooth live performances with unscripted, talk show-style interviews that go behind the music.
Special guests for the April 12 Toast & Jam are John Sandfort and Justin Powell.
John Sandfort’s debut recording “Southbound” hits like a freight train at full steam. His bold, thick tenor saxophone sound assumes immediate control. The project is a balance of well-selected jazz standards and Sandfort’s fresh originals. The title “Southbound” fits the St. Louis native who now makes Atlanta, Georgia his home.
Sandfort’s musical development includes time in Chicago. The music of the “Windy City” natives Gene Ammons and Johnny Griffin were significant influences. Add the sounds of Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, Hank Mobley, Sonny Stitt and Wardell Gray to arrive at Sandfort’s classic, yet personal sound.
“When I play, if I can impart some of the feeling I get when listening to a Gene Ammons recording, or a swinging Cannonball Adderly track, I will be a happy guy,” says Sandfort.
Atlanta based trumpeter, composer/arranger, and educator Justin Powell has been active in the Atlanta music scene since 2013. He stays busy performing and
recording with The Terminus Horns, which has collaborated with internationally renowned producers and artists. They are committed to enhancing the sound of local up-and-coming artists and established bands.
As a performer, Powell has shared the stage and collaborated with incredible artists
including The Gorillaz, Josh Groban, The Floozies, American Authors, Red Wanting Blue, Sister Hazel, The Isley Brothers, Angie Stone, The Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Balsam Range, and The O'Jays. Powell is well versed in all styles of music and has worked with several classical orchestras, brass quintets, and pop and rock bands. He is a top call session player in the Atlanta area, and has arranged horn parts in a variety of styles for live performance and studio sessions.
