We close our 2025/26 season with the world premiere of To the West, a new multi-movement work by Connor Koppin, scored for choir and string quartet. This piece reflects on memory, landscape, and the enduring connection between people and the places they love.Drawing on texts by early and influential Pacific Northwest figures, including writer Ella Rhoads Higginson and botanist David Douglas, To the West meditates on how natural spaces become markers of shared experience and quiet memorials to life’s most meaningful moments. Through poetry shaped by this region’s forests, waterways, and horizons, the work explores the idea that human memory and the natural world are deeply intertwined.
This premiere continues our commitment to championing new professional choral music in our region while honoring the artistic and natural heritage of the Pacific Northwest.
