Following the , the space opens for a relaxed, open-ended deep-listening session of TO BE by Karman Line Collective, inviting visitors to arrive and stay at their own pace throughout the evening. The album unfolds within a sensorial environment shaped by sound and a living scent-scape of bee propolis - an extraordinary material offered by bees and worked with by Wolfgang Buttress, allowing listeners to immerse themselves in a quiet convergence of music and atmosphere. This is an unstructured space for presence and attunement, where sound and scent linger, soften, and deepen as the evening continues.

(b. 1965) is an award winning British artist who creates multi-sensory artworks that draw inspiration from our evolving relationship with the ‘natural’ world. Wolfgang explores and interprets scientific discoveries, collaborating with architects, landscape architects, scientists and musicians to create human-centered experiences.

Wolfgang has produced artworks on four continents including Europe, Australia, Japan and the U.S. He is well known for the UK Pavilion (Milan EXPO 2015) and The Hive, a collaboration with physicist Dr Martin Bencsik, BDP and Simmonds Studio, currently installed at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London, England. The project has won over 25 awards including the gold medal for best in show.

The Hive is a fourteen-meter aluminium lattice cuboid that highlights the decline of the honey bee. By measuring the activity of a living bee colony at Kew Gardens, accelerometers feed live signals to 1000 LED lights which line the interior of the sculpture. The energy informs an ever changing and fluid soundscape created by a selected ensemble of musicians who now write and perform under the name of BE.
TO BE is the first album by KARMAN LINE COLLECTIVE (FKA BE).

KARMAN LINE COLLECTIVE is a musical collective comprising of artist Wolfgang Buttress alongside many collaborators including Kevin Bales and Tony Foster (Spiritualized, Julian Cope). Buttress and friends have spent the last three years creating a new soundscape for his latest art installation BEES: A Story of Survival, which ran as a multi-sensory experience at World Museum, Liverpool and is now on a global tour- Canada, U.S. New Zealand, Australia, Singapore…… This immersive exhibition highlights the essential role these ingenious pollinators play within the planet’s ecosystems, whilst also focusing on the existential threat faced by both bees and humanity alike due to our mistreatment of the environments that surround us. With this in mind, the album TO BE takes the listener on a reflective journey, making connections to the changing seasons of life and our increasingly fragile relationship with nature. Across the album’s eight tracks, the music flows with it’s own mysterious beauty offering a sense of empathy and connection where the sounds of bee and human are harmoniously integrated. It is here that it parallels the message of Buttress’ exhibition: bees are in a crisis for which we are responsible, but we have to dream of better days to come through humanity’s efforts. Karman Line Collectives first album was released eight years ago when the artist worked with thousands of bees to soundtrack his immersive art installation The Hive at Kew Gardens, London. ONE by BE was released to huge critical acclaim and featured in many of the year’s best album lists, including those of Rough Trade, The Quietus and The Guardian.
