Titirangi Village & Bush Edge

West Auckland gets its turn, and a different kind of green to work with.

We're meeting at the Titirangi War Memorial Hall and wandering the village and the bush-edge streets where the city quietly gives way to the Waitakeres. It's the one outing this season on the western side, and the light through the trees here behaves differently to anywhere else on the calendar — filtered, dappled, a lot more shadow to work with than our coastal or CBD walks.

Morning's the right time for it.

If the Titirangi Village Market happens to be running that morning, it's worth a wander through as a minor extra (stalls, produce, and local craft right next to our meeting point) though it's not the focus of the walk.

Bring a jacket regardless of the forecast, the bush holds onto the cold a bit longer than the rest of the city does.

No theme, no pressure. You'll be walking alongside a friendly, easygoing group of photographers, all looking at the same stretch of bush edge and seeing something slightly different in it.
