Ernies Loop Track is a rugged, 15-kilometre backcountry hiking trail located in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park, southeast of Auckland.
The Lookouts: Elevated vantage points offering sweeping views across the dense native forest canopy and the Upper Mangatāwhiri Reservoir.
The Terrain: A mix of wide gravel operational roads like Waterline Road and narrow, heavily forested dirt tracks.
This intermediate-level track typically takes between 5 to 7 hours to complete and is known for its steep, challenging climbs, deep mud, and beautiful native bush.
