In Love Letter to a Garden, Millman shares her journey to make and grow a garden, a process that started with child-like wonder in her grandparents’ backyard garden and grew into a lifelong obsession with flora— from tending handed-down houseplants to grief over the loss of a lone peony to harvesting her first potato. Millman grew (and often failed to grow) gardens in both New York City and Los Angeles, whose eventual bounty instilled both pride and joy.
Readers who love the tender storytelling of The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse or the wonders of nature found in The Comfort of Crows will find much to enjoy in this book, which also includes ten delicious recipes—such as “Summery Panzanella” and “A Tomato Galette” from Millman’s wife, bestselling author Roxane Gay, using ingredients grown together in their garden.
Min Jin Lee says of Millman’s book: “I needed this passionate love letter—a gorgeous reminder to plant, tend, endure, wait, and discover, because only then will we gather our most nourishing dreams.” Love Letter to a Garden is an inspiring, fable-like work with many of life’s lessons contained within, certain to be shared and cherished for many years to come.
